WebMCP: Making Web Apps Faster and Cheaper for Coding Agents

by Maximiliano Firtman Twitter @firt About Newsletter

During AI DevCon 2026 in London 🇬🇧 I delivered this talk about WebMCP and how web apps can expose tools to AI agents

Coding agents still use web apps the hard way: taking screenshots, scraping the DOM and guessing where to click. That wastes tokens, it's slow, and it breaks as soon as the UI changes.

In this session, you'll see how WebMCP changes that by letting your web app expose its own tools to the agent with a clear contract. We'll cover where WebMCP fits in the MCP ecosystem and next to browser automation, what you gain by exposing tools instead of letting agents drive the UI, and its current experimental status at the W3C.

We'll also go through the security considerations and the current limitations, so you know what you can ship today and what is still coming.
